Medeama SC to receive $700,000 from CAF for Champions League group stage qualification

Medeama SC have reached the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history after eliminating Horoya AC in preliminary round of the competition.

The Yellow and Mauves lads have achieved a great feat of becoming the first Ghanaian in to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League since 2012.

The last team from the West African nation to seal a ticket to the money zone of the Champion League was Berekum Chelsea after eliminating Cameroonian side Coton Sports.

For reaching the group stage, Medeama SC is guaranteed of $550, 000 from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as prize money.

In May 2023, CAF announced that the 40% increment in the prize monies of its competition where the total package for winning the title is now $4 million.

The Champions League runner-up will earn $2

million while the Confederation Cup runner-up will rack in $1 million. The Champions League and Confederation Cup semi-finalists will take home $1.2 million and $750,000 respectively and $900,000 and $550,000 for the quarter-finalists of the two competitions.

The teams that finish in the Champions League group stage will earn $550,000 while those in the Confederation Cup will earn $400,000.

Should the Ghanaian giants qualify from the group stage, they will be receiving additional $200,000 for finishing among the eight clubs to play at the quarter-final stage.
