Monaco is a big step – Salisu Mohammed
Ghana defender Salisu Mohammed has described his move to AS Monaco as a ‘big step’ for his career.
The center back joined A.S Monaco in a five-year deal after the French club paid Southampton 15m for his services.
“[Monaco] is a great club and I am very happy to be here. This is a big step for me in my career,” he told Monaco’s website.
“I am looking forward to the journey and to win games and be the best team that we can be.”
Salisu Mohammed will hope to play more after managing an average of 26.7 matches over the last three years.
The deal ends Salisu’s time on the South coast where he played for three seasons until they suffered relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season.
The 24-year-old could have stayed to see out the final year of his contract at St Mary’s Park but Monaco moved swiftly to secure his signature in a deal said to be worth 17 million Euros.
Salisu joined Southampton after they paid £10.9 million to Real Valladolid. During his three-year stay at Southampton Salisu made 80 appearances in all competitions.
